Welcome to my new site
First a Welcome to all new and old visitors to my site. As you can see, my site does not look finished. And that's because it isn't. I very recently (Jan 7, 2011) moved my domain from a Windows account at the webhotel, to a Linux account. As most of you understand, this means that I start over building my site.
As many of you know, I used to be very active at SkyPortal, and SkyPortal was the framework/platform on which I had built my previous site. There were 2 HUGE issues with that.
First issue, SkyPortal was built on ASP, that's right, old classic ASP that Microsoft has tried to phase out for many years. And no matter the ease for newbies to understand and use ASP, ASP was and is doomed to die, you might not like it, but that's the truth. Today there are other more modern ways to code that are faster and more dynamic and have much better performance.
Over to the second issue then. SkyPortal itself. Beginning with the conflict between 2 of the developers in February 2005 and the following hacking attempt (a successful one where we lost the database and set us back many months with the development) , SkyPortal was a one-man-show. No sourcecode repository could be set up due to unwillingness from one of the developers. Everything depending on one developer that wouldn't let any other developers work on the core code. That situation worked for a while but one day in early 2010 the saga ended. Of course it had ended many months earlier, but in early 2010 it finally got official when the servers were taken offline. The SkyPortal era was over. Yes I know the whole ugly story and so does the other former admins at SkyPortal. But what I have said in this text is enough for you to know. You might be curious about all the nasty details, but you don't need to know about them. RIP SkyPortal.
I have saved all themes/skins for SkyPortal that I have been able to find. All those that I have created and most of the others. I will with time make it all downloadable from this site. And possibly also convert the best of them to themes for other frameworks like Drupal and WordPress. Don't expect miracles though, I am once again a newbie and it will take time.
